Kam Burns is an engagement journalist with a focus on new media platforms.
My writing centers on mental health, LGBTQ+ issues, and pop culture. I’ve gained experience working for both local and national organizations in print, digital, and radio. While I’m well-practiced in traditional writing, reporting, and editing—my true passion lies in social. I love finding ways to reach new audiences and tell stories in ways they haven’t been told before. I’m also a founding member of the Trans Journalists Association.

Engagement Editor at Politico (2020- 2022)
I develop social strategies for new and emerging platforms like Twitter Spaces and Reddit. I share editorial content on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram using Politico’s distinct voice. I work closely with reporters and editors on breaking news, live platforms, and live event coverage.
Co-founder and Board Member at Trans Journalists Association (2020-present)
I built the Trans Journalists Association’s website and launched the Twitter and Instagram accounts. I co-authored our Style Guide , which is used in newsrooms across the country. I currently manage our Twitter account and assist with communications, and media inquiries
